2016 Brave Girl Symposium Speakers

Kallie Maughan
Meeting Where Our Petals Touch
Kallie kicked off Symposium with this absolutely stellar talk about a life-changing, world-changing concept: Let’s start deliberately looking for places where our souls overlap, instead of places where they don’t. Kallie also delivers a reading of her book on the subject, complete with gorgeous illustrations… We cannot wait for you to see this. Enjoy.
Melody Ross
What Can Love Do?
Melody opens up about what love can do–a main theme from Symposium 2016. Later in the talk, several audience members and BGC staff take the stage to do a little “She Did It Anyway” activity. So many world-shaking ideas shared in this talk… enjoy!
L'Erin Alta
She is known for burning down the stale "self-help" status quo and igniting spiritual liberation. Her workshops and retreats have been called, "transformation temples for unruly, soulful women".

If you were to read her resume, it would include Microsoft, non-profits large and small, as well as a 5-year stint as a MAC makeup artist. But what should really be there are the 23 countries where she's studied healing in backwater ashrams, jungle temples and mountain monasteries, working with spiritual teachers, medicine women and shamans from all faiths and spiritual paths.
Jennette & Melody
Beautiful, life-changing story... and the world couldn't be more in need of this message.

Jennette, one of Melody's best friends, joins her on stage to tell the story of how their friendship began--a story of what love can do... when you always thought you were supposed to hate each other.
Kelly Rae Roberts
She’s a self-described Possibilitarian, which means she believes that no matter how dark things might seem to be, the bright light of possibility is always within reach. She is probably best known as a mixed media artist who creates signature angel girl paintings and inspiring mantra paintings. She’s also an author and creator of the Wear Your Joy practice. The thing a lot of people don’t know about her though, is that she started painting at age 30 - she literally hadn’t picked up a paintbrush before then. Her story is a glowing reminder that it’s never too late to step bravely into the life your heart is calling for.
Lisa Palmer
The Art of Sistering
Lisa Palmer takes the stage to give us an INCREDIBLE talk on her experiences teaching Soul Restoration at a homeless shelter every week. You do not want to miss this. Take it away, Lisa!
Flora Bowley
In her books and in her painting, she is a rule-breaker… her art and her art process stray wildly from the status quo. But more than an artist, more than an author, she’s a helper, a lover. What she strives for most is to help people… help them trust, love, and free themselves.
Cristina Orbe
She is a woman of many talents… but her true gift is for bringing people together. She is passionate about taking the places where divides exist and building bridges, finding commonality, and getting souls of different backgrounds to collaborate and connect. She is also an arts curator, a creative director, and a community organizer. In all her avenues of work and life she strives to empower others and deliver messages of hope. She is wildly creative. She is a lover of people. She is a dreamer. Here she is, the radiant Cristina Orbe.
Shamanie Haneca
She is a healer… not only through her work as a doctor, but through the unique approach she has developed of healing fear through love. She works as a functional medicine doctor, where she strives to empower others to follow a path to create health and wholeness—mind, body, and soul. Underneath her professional persona, she is a loving and funny mother, a brave and intentional giver of love, and a survivor. Her story is one of overcoming… her story is an immensely powerful answer to the question “what can love do?”
Rachel Awes
She is best known for her work as a psychologist, speaker, author, and art playgroundist—a word she likes to use to evoke feelings of freedom and whimsy, like making art is going to recess. She carries this indomitable spirit of wildness into all her work. She is the author and illustrator of the book “The Great Green Okayness: A Field Guide to Seeing Your Uncommon Magnificence,” as well as “All I Did Was Listen” and “Diving In.” Her books often draw upon poignant insights into humanity which she’s gained from her 20+ years as a psychologist. She has a unique gift for painting these insights with language and color in a way that makes them so accessible to the soul, so exhilarating and relatable as a human.
Keri & Rick Evans
Imagine being a world famous, best-selling author, millions of books published and several of them made into movies. Now, imagine being his wife, holding the world together behind the scenes. It is not very often that you get a behind the scenes account of how things work inside of a marriage, what it takes to balance a very public life with a very sacred family life. The bravery it requires, the love it requires. Here Rick and Keri give us a glimpse into their story of triumph and tragedy.
Yve Evans
She is known as well for her refreshing and humorous outlook on humankind… her love for humankind is clear in her work, where she strives to elevate, educate, and heal both with music and with laughter. She is a musician. She is a performer. She is a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary International. She is wise. And she lives her life like she sings her songs… fearlessly. Enjoy this wonderful video from our speaker and performer, Yve Evans.
Erin Faith Allen

She’s a visionary. She is an artist of many kinds—paint, collage, film. She is a mover and a shaker.

She shares her skills and wisdom in retreats and workshops all over the world… from Texas to Oxford to Prague… teaching women her one-of-a-kind techniques for creating visceral, raw, and evocative art journal spreads, paintings, and assemblage pieces. She also crafts beautiful soulful films spotlighting the work of her fellow artists.

Panel Discussion
In this panel-style session, Melody sits down on the sofa-stage with a few of her beloved friends, and they share their thoughts on how we can ALL be sisters to each other. It was such a treat to have these brilliant (and diverse) souls all on one stage. We hope you love it as much as we did.
"What You Are"
by Jewel
Amidst the 20+ amazing speakers and other hugely fun events, Kathy took the stage with her brother Ben and niece Stephanie to deliver a beautiful performance of Jewel's "What You Are"--a song about having everything you need inside you already.
